A good writer will endeavour to inspire and excite the reader's mind with their words and will often regard the written word as an art form in much the same way as a painter creates a picture. In the same way a painter will look at a blank canvas and think of the endless possible outcomes so this is the case when a writer looks at a blank sheet of paper.
Often a writer will find themselves bursting with ideas and words that they must put down on paper for fear that those words, and the information that is contained within those sentences, will end up being lost forever.
Sometimes a writer is someone who is unable to convey information through speech in an accurate manner so would rather take their time and plan each word, to ensure accuracy, in the form of writing.
Some writers will also lead the way and write about things that are designed to create a response or some other form of feedback with the added bonus of gaining recognition for the information that they have given. All of these things are also true of a martial art teacher who will find it in their nature to put across, not only information, but also concepts and ideas in the form of physical instruction to the student in just the same way as a writer would do. It is no surprise therefore that many teachers of the martial arts will also turn to instructional and creative writing in time. Words - The written word is one of the most powerful tools the human race has ever known. A few simple words can make a person jump for joy or make a strong man cry, and yet the written word is no more than ink lines on a sheet of paper. It has no emotion and it makes no sound.
So how can just a few ink shapes make people react in such a dramatic way? One of the reasons why a simple word is so powerful is due to the reader’s own mind. How many times have you read something and in your own mind you can hear the writer shouting with an angry voice? - and yet the writing makes no sound, it has no emotion. Words are subject to the reader’s own mind and often this creates problems when there are non. The writer could write words of love even if they have no love in their heart or mind. The writer could write words of hate or anger even though they write such words with a soft and gentle mind. The simple written word is the most powerful tool the human race has ever known. - Dave J.
