During the second world war England was nearly invaded, and occupied, by Germany but thanks to being an island and surrounded by the sea they failed, but not without great loss and being bombed, and also under long range rocket attacks, first.
But what would happen if they had landed in force on British soil? What if they had marched through the streets of England? What if it all became a case of ‘boots on the ground’ as some term it these days? For sure the very thought of fleeing as refugees in boats to other countries was never the case back then. More so because it was a world war and with other countries facing that very same thing already, and being bombed to bits, there were no viable places to flee to anyway? But that was then of course. But what if England became a war zone now? Fleeing for your very life from certain death in some parts of the world is more than understandable, and on humanitarian grounds such people do need help, but what if the people of Britain needed to do that very same thing in the future? Where would they go? More to the point, who would take them in? Most countries are war zones already, these days, and many places around the world are still being given aid from Britain even now, but would those very same countries take them in as refugees? Would they open the flood gates or would they reinforce their borders and stop them? Or would British people do as they did during the 2nd world war and stay and fight for their very survival? With nowhere to run to I would think that Britain would have no other option but to stay and fight for sure anyway? On a final note I have to wonder why other countries would want to invade and occupy other places anyway? History clearly shows that to control other counties by force always ends in failure in time. There will always be resistance by the natives of any country in one form or another against invaders of their home. And although it has worked at times, in some areas of the world, it still often involves brutal fighting and strong resistance for many years in some cases. Would England stay and fight or would they become refugees when that time comes? Only time will tell of course. For a related article about ‘World War One’ click >HERE< Comments are closed.
